Accommodation in Nyika Nat. Park
Chelinda

The Nyika Plateau is one of those very special places on earth, and nobody who loves nature should let a chance go by to visit this unique  unforgettable paradise of mountain-animals, birds and plants. At an altitude of about 2000 metres, the plateau watches over the northern regions of Lake Malawi and renders an unbelievable view to the far-away hills of Tanzania, called the "window into heaven". The largest of the many national parks in Malawi, the Nyika National Park serves to protect the plateau and its wide variety of wildlife. Feel close to nature by exploring the unique flora and fauna on horseback or during game drives. The main animals present here are: Eland, reedbuck, Puku, duiker, the big carnivores, civet cats, leopards and lynx, and of course warthogs and the water pigs. There are many other species in this area – the list goes on forever.

The flora, however, the true beauty of Nyika. The best time to see this is from September to April, the rainy season. Under the protective shade of a wide variety of mountain plants, many small species of orchids can be seen. Daisies sway in the wind next to the small brooks, while proteas and aloes decorate the mountain slopes.
