Accommodation at Lake Malawi
Kaya Mawa

About 600km long and 80km wide, the lake dominates the small country. A variety of colourful fish shimmer underneath the surface while a fish eagle soars above looking for the next prey.

The lake, one of the most valuable assets of earth, has an inexhaustible number of activities to offer: sport-fishing, sailing, watersports, snorkelling or just relaxing on the sandy tropical beaches.

The Lake Malawi Park dominates the southern end of the lake and was established to protect the unique tropical fish population of the lake. This area with its tree covered hills, the Nankhumba Penisula, small, sandy coves, an immense variety of plants and animals and about 500 species of tropical fish, is almost like paradise. Here you can have the rare opportunity to observe otters playing in the water, or admire the graceful sweep of a hunting fish eagle.

A further treat which should not be missed is a visit to the Likoma Island, the bigger of the two islands in the north-east, not very far from the coast of Mozambique. The island with an area of only 17km2 is populated by a few people who sustain themselves by fishing and by growing their own rice. In this heavenly place you will find hundreds of baobab trees, white beaches all around, rocky coves and glass-clear water. Snorkelling and diving belong to some of the unforgettable activities to be done on this island.
