| The population counts approximately
9 million people. The geography of Malawi is defined and determined
by Africa’s Great Rift Valley. Towering mountains, fertile
valleys and enormous crystal-clear lakes are the characteristics
of the Rift Valley. Malawi is landlocked. |

It is a long narrow country covering
more than 1000 km from north to south. Lake
Malawi 600 km long and 80 km wide dominates the countryside.
The habitat of Malawi is varied and the scenery is diverse.
At the lowest point the country is only 35 m above sea level.
Its highest point, only 140 km away, is Mount Mulanje with over
3000 m above sea level.
