| Kaokoland |
 |
The Kaokoland lies in the north
of Namibia between the Hoanib river and the Kunene river, which
forms the border between Namibia and Angola.
|
 |
 |
| It offers a variety of landscapes
and vegetations from the Namib desert in the west to the mopane
forests in the east. Between these two contrasting landscapes
you will find rough mountainous country and savannahs. |
| |
| The Kaokoland is the homeland
of the Ovahimba, a semi-nomadic tribe, who still live according
to their old traditions. The Kunene river has its beginnings
in the mountains of southeast Angola, flows southwards to Calueque,
then turns west to form the border between Namibia and Angola
from the Ruacana Waterfalls to the Atlantic Ocean. |
